Nothing keeps the spark burning like traveling together. Spending quality one-on-one time with your loved one while exploring new places is a great way to deepen your bond and create lasting memories.

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, or just a long weekend away, why not retreat together to a rustic lodge, laze on a tropical beach, or toast at a country winery? Whatever you want your romantic getaway to be, we can help you make it happen with these amazing weekend destinations perfect for couples. Get blissed out and star-gazing.

Best for Outdoor Adventure: Park City, Utah Best for Luxury: Playa del Carmen, Mexico Best for Foodie Experiences: Charleston, South Carolina Best for a Glamorous Getaway: Palm Springs, California Best for Beach Getaways: Watch Hill, Rhode Island

For a complete list of recommendations, read on.

Park City, Utah

Tessa Desjardins/Travel + Leisure

What could be more dreamy than cozying up by a fire in a snowy mountain cabin, with some local whiskey and chocolate in hand, of course? Park City is a winter wonderland brimming with small-town charm and easily accessible from Salt Lake City International Airport.

Enjoy skiing at Park City Mountain and Deer Valley, two world-class resorts boasting the best skiing conditions in the world. In between runs on fresh snow, enjoy spectacular snow-capped views and gourmet cuisine at a mountaintop pit stop. For the ultimate après ski experience, head to the ski-in, ski-out St. Regis Deer Valley Resort, where you can enjoy indulgent hot chocolate, fireside s’mores and craft cocktails.

Besides mountain sports, Utah’s historic mining town is a holiday postcard filled with activities perfect for a date, including sledding, ice skating, hot air ballooning, dog sledding and shopping along historic Main Street, where many acclaimed restaurant and saloon facades from the 1880s have been preserved. Relax with a whiskey at High West Distillery in Park City. For a candlelit dinner with live local music, head to River Horse on Main. Afterwards, enjoy a nightcap at the popular No Name Saloon Bar & Grill. There’s plenty to see and do for couples in “Winter’s Favorite Town.”

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

A short drive south from Cancun airport, Playa del Carmen sits on the palm-lined Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. With pristine nature and luxury hotels, Mexico’s Riviera Maya is a top-notch vacation destination, an ideal spot for lovers seeking warmer weather.

If privacy and luxury are what you crave, then head to the 5-star Rosewood Mayakoba, one of the most romantic resorts in the area. Set on the edge of a freshwater lagoon, the resort offers sophisticated amenities like premium amenities, heated plunge pools, and in-room mezcal. There are also three infinity pools, an open kitchen with interactive cooking experiences, and beachfront fire pits for lounging under the moonlight.

If you want to explore further afield, bike paths connect nearby resorts, including Andaz Myakova and Banyan Tree Myakova, and you can borrow a complimentary bike to explore the jungle.

Charleston, South Carolina

Nicknamed the “Holy City” for its long history of religious tolerance, Charleston is a beloved destination for many travelers thanks to its historic architecture, cobblestone streets, vibrant culinary scene and Southern charm.

Foodie couples will find it heaven. The culinary capital of the South is home to countless standout spots and immersive experiences. Not to be missed are the seafood stars on King Street, oysters at The Ordinary, spicy fried chicken at Leon’s Oyster Shop, and Texas-style brisket at Lewis Barbecue. For a classic post-dinner cocktail, try The Bar & Patio at Husk. Fancy a bubbly drink? Check out Camellias, the champagne bar at Hotel Bennett.

Stay at the French Quarter Inn, a boutique hotel in the heart of the historic district, and at the end of a jam-packed (and undoubtedly delicious) day, the hotel’s premium turndown service, complete with a “pillow menu” featuring seven comfy pillow options, will ensure the best dreams.

Palm Springs, California

Once a glamorous Old Hollywood getaway, Palm Springs remains as fashionable today as it was in Frank Sinatra’s day. This desert oasis lures visitors with stylish resorts, world-class restaurants and spectacular desert scenery. With more than 100 courses in the area, it’s a haven for hikers, adventure seekers and golfers.

Try a backcountry jeep tour through the San Andreas Fault Zone or visit Joshua Tree National Park, about an hour’s drive away. Looking to relax? Soak in the natural hot springs of Desert Hot Springs or get a hot stone couples massage at one of the area’s many day spas. Palm Springs also has a great culinary scene, and many of the city’s best restaurants offer patio dining under the stars.

For a relaxing stay, book a suite at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage. With everything from cliff-top dining to a luxury spa surrounded by the beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains, you can have an unforgettable weekend without even leaving the property. With postcard-perfect views in every direction, the best way to take it all in is from a pool cabana sipping an Arnold Palmer. The golfing legend first introduced the now-famous iced tea lemonade drink in Palm Springs in the late ’60s.

Watch Hill, Rhode Island

Just a short drive from much of the Northeast, Watch Hill is an ideal place to visit year-round. For a private stay, head to Ocean House, a beautiful, grand Victorian seaside property built in 1868 and a New England town jewel. Couples can enjoy long walks on the private white-sand beach or cuddle in front of the stately stone fireplace with a cocktail in hand. An on-site farm-to-table restaurant and a renowned culinary school offer gourmet classes and private tastings.

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands

Turks and Caicos is one of the best locations for a romantic getaway in the Caribbean, and the islands are so accessible (less than a two-hour flight from Miami and less than a four-hour flight from New York) that couples can arrive in paradise in no time.

For a few days in a dreamy location, try The Shore Club. The first resort to open on beautiful Long Bay Beach, Providenciales’ most private stretch of sand, offers tranquil retreats and modern amenities. Start your day by paddle boarding into the dazzling turquoise waters, relax at one of four cabana-lined swimming pools, and end your night with fresh seafood at SUI-REN, the resort’s Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant.

Couples can enjoy watersports like stand-up paddleboarding or indulge in stress-relieving spa treatments in between lazing around on the white sand beaches. Don’t miss downtown Grace Bay, a hub for restaurants, bars, shopping and nightlife. There’s plenty to ignite the spark in any relationship.

Montreal, Canada

If you’re looking for a European-style destination without hopping on a transatlantic flight, head to Montreal. This sophisticated Canadian metropolis is rich in history, centuries-old architecture, and bustling French bistros.

Most tourists stay away from Montreal until spring, so those looking to soak up the winter wonderland atmosphere can enjoy a tranquil getaway filled with cold-weather charm, like ice skating at Parc Lafontaine, dog sledding on Mont Tremblant, or a guided nighttime snowshoeing trip on Mont Royal with beautiful views of the city lights. Travelers can then warm themselves up with hot chocolate by a roaring fireplace in one of Old Montreal’s comfortable hotels.

After soaking up the vibrant downtown vibe, you can enjoy a pampering massage or facial at The Ritz-Carlton’s luxurious Spa St. James, or sip cocktails and tapas at W Montreal’s Living Room, where the sexy setting and relaxed ambience will set the romantic mood.

Worland, Tennessee

Blackberry Mountain

Take your love of adventure to new heights in a luxurious mountain retreat. Nestled amongst 5,200 acres in the Great Smoky Mountains, Blackberry Mountain, a Relais & Chateaux resort, is the perfect place to get cozy with your partner.

This rustic sanctuary combines tranquil surroundings with active wellness activities. Outdoorsy couples can enjoy everything from hiking, mountain biking and candlelit yoga to relaxing forest bathing, forest meditation and restorative spa treatments. After pampering the body and mind, nourish the soul at three unique restaurants, which boast Blackberry Farm’s acclaimed hospitality and culinary program.

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

The largest of the three Cayman Islands, this is the ultimate haven for couples looking to enjoy a Caribbean beach oasis at any pace. Warm, dry and less crowded than mid-winter, early spring is the ideal time to visit Grand Cayman and its world-famous Seven Mile Beach.

A variety of water sports await you on a grand adventure amid the island’s sparkling waters. Kayak through the lush tropical mangrove forests or charter a catamaran to Rum Point on the north coast. Looking for some rest and relaxation with your loved one? Spending a sun-soaked afternoon lounging on the beach or swaying in a hammock is the perfect way to do so.

Grand Cayman’s spectacular sunsets are the perfect backdrop for a passionate evening. After soaking up the mesmerizing spectacle of flames at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa, treat yourself to an exclusive dinner at Abecita, where you’ll savour seasonal wood-fired dishes with a Caribbean twist at the custom chef’s counter. Pro tip: Make a reservation in advance; there are only 10 seats available, and only one per night.

Paso Robles, California

William Helsel/Getty Images

Unleash that love-filled feeling with a trip to California’s third-largest wine region (after the better-known Napa and Sonoma). The vast rolling countryside dotted with vineyards, olive groves, farms and ranches lies along the state’s central coast, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Paso Robles’ natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere make it the perfect place to relax for a long weekend. Sample a variety of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot and more at more than 200 wineries. Many tastings take place in sunny outdoor spaces with breathtaking views, elevating the experience. Many visitors find Paso’s laid-back atmosphere attractive, and lodging is more affordable than in California’s more famous wine regions.

If you tire of the booze (and we all do), try some local olive oil, visit a craft brewery, or soak in a hot spring for a change of pace. Downtown is lined with interesting boutiques and delicious restaurants. Stop by The General Store for souvenirs like honey, olive oil, soaps, and handmade goods from local producers.

New Paltz, New York

Gabriel Pevido/Getty Images

Looking for somewhere that feels like another world, but is just a short drive from New York City? Book a room at Mohonk Mountain House. Family-owned since 1869, this Victorian resort sits on the shores of the crystal blue waters of Mohonk Lake in New Paltz.

This magnificent castle-like property offers couples an award-winning spa, farm-to-table cuisine, and a variety of daily outdoor activities. In the winter, guests can snowshoe or cross-country ski on groomed trails or ice skate in a private pavilion. In warmer months, guests can enjoy horseback riding, canoeing, and hiking on the surrounding Shawangunk Ridge.

A leisurely, romantic day is also welcome: lounge by the stone fireplace with hot chocolate, soak in the outdoor heated mineral pool, or watch the sunset from a rocking chair on the porch. Spending time with your loved one surrounded by pristine mountain nature will have you falling in love all over again.
