As Audrey Hepburn once said, “Paris is always a good idea.” And in fact, the French capital is so crowded with tourists that some may wonder why there’s a need to mention Paris in the first place. But as the city prepares to host the 2024 Olympics, the City of Lights is shining brighter than ever. Plans include swimming in the Seine, playing beach volleyball at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and starting a marathon on the grand historic square of the Hôtel de Ville. (The official website for the Paris Olympics says: “Paris is unlike any other city and therefore deserves every honor. The Olympics in the capital promises a complete and well-thought-out spectacle for athletes, spectators and television viewers. ).
And since this is Paris, athletics are also done fashionably. The entire game is sponsored by luxury conglomerate LVMH, and the company’s many fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands will be available to support the international event. (For example, Chaumet designs medals for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, while the wine and spirits house of Moët Hennessy provides alcohol for official hospitality events. And one can only wonder about the official uniforms… ) Meanwhile, the Museum of Decorative Arts will hold the exhibition “Mode et Sport, d’un podium à l’autre” (Fashion and Sport: From Podium to Podium) until April 2024.
Need another reason? Over the past few months, Paris has seen the arrival of a number of notable new boutique hotels, from the Martin Brudnicki-designed Le Grand Mazarin in the Marais to the Belle Époque-style Château des Fleurs. Did. —ET
