TOPEKA (KSNT) – State officials announced $500,000 will be donated to 14 award winners to support tourism development in the Sunflower State.
On Monday, Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced the awarding of $500,000 in the latest round of Attraction Development Grants, according to a release from the Kansas Department of Commerce. This grant program will help build tourism experiences across Kansas in hopes of boosting the state’s economy.
“Quality tourist attractions have played a huge role in our state’s economic success over the past five years,” Toland said. “By establishing and continuing to invest in quality attractions, we are improving the quality of life for current Kansans and creating more reasons for potential future residents to call Kansas home. ”
Fourteen new or existing tourist attractions across the state will receive a portion of funding from the Attraction Development Grant. Recipients will receive an amount equal to their investment from the grant for approved projects, according to the release. The total amount matched is nearly $1.4 million.
“We’re excited to announce new attractions that will give travelers the chance to visit our great state, immerse themselves in the stories and learn more about Kansas,” said Kansas Tourism Director Bridget Jobe. “By securing these grants, we are not just building a destination, we are creating a dream and shaping the future of tourism in Kansas.”
