While Boston is attractive in the summer, several other US destinations are more popular with travelers this year, according to TripAdvisor.

The Needham-based travel website’s annual “Summer Travel Rankings” ranked Boston 10th on its list of the top 10 most popular summer travel destinations in the country, with Las Vegas being the No. 1 U.S. summer destination, according to the site.
The report found that American travelers are looking for entertainment, sporting events and adventure this summer.
“As travel continues to defy expectations, travel ambitions are on the rise as consumers redirect discretionary spending toward vacations and experiences, despite increasingly strained budgets for many households,” Alice Jong, senior research analyst at TripAdvisor, said in a statement. “Travellers want to see new places and have new experiences, as evidenced by one-third of travelers planning to explore new destinations.”
According to TripAdvisor, the most popular domestic summer destinations for American travelers are:
1. Las Vegas
2. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
3. Orlando, Florida
4. Honolulu, Hawaii
5. New York City
6. Chicago
7. Key West, Florida
8. Ocean City, Maryland
9. San Diego
10. Boston
According to the report, the top three summer destinations globally for U.S. travelers are Cancun, London and Punta Cana.
The Summer Travel Index results were determined by TripAdvisor’s consumer sentiment survey, conducted March 13-18 among more than 2,400 consumers, and site behavior data collected between February 1 and April 15 for travel from June 1 to August 31.
