Imagine riding a cable car and seeing the breathtaking beauty of Turrialba Volcano from above. This may soon become a reality thanks to pioneering proposals put forward by the members of Congress representing the ruling party, Rosaura Méndez (PLN), Alejandro Pacheco (PUSC) and Pilar Cisneros.
The proposed installation of the cable car system is part of the “Nuevo Territorio Turrialba y Jiménez” project, which aims to promote social inclusion and economic revitalization in the region. At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to revitalize local economies and create new job opportunities for local communities.
The feasibility of the project was confirmed after an extensive evaluation process carried out by two Swiss engineers in April last year. The cable car line will extend for approximately 2.5 kilometers and provide direct access to the Turrialba Volcano.
The four towers each feature cabins for 12 to 20 people, and this infrastructure promises to accommodate a wide variety of visitors, including those with limited mobility.
A statement issued by PLN’s representatives said that the proposed cable car system would not only improve access to the volcano, but also ensure safer and more inclusive access, meaning that a wider range of people would It was emphasized that tourism will be encouraged.
Representatives of the Legislature have been active in dialogue with local stakeholders, including farm owners and residents, to identify the best strategy for installing the cable car system.
Álvaro Ramírez, Technical Advisor of Nuevo Territorio Turrialba y Jiménez, emphasized the importance of realizing this innovative project.
“With the improvements we are planning to Guayabo, if we can divert some of those visits to Turrialba, we will be able to establish a tourism circuit that will encourage people to spend the night in Turrialba,” he said. .
At this time, it is unclear how this initiative will be funded. However, proponents note that the construction has support from multiple sectors and are hopeful that an agreement on construction funding will be reached soon.
