More than 100 years have passed since the first small-leaved tea plants were brought and planted in Tan Son, about 10 km southwest of Thas Nguyen city centre. A few trees planted in 1921 have now grown into a vast tea plantation.
“Tang Cun tea is highly praised for its unique flavor, which has a gentle aroma of green rice, astringency and sweetness, and no bitterness,” said Dao Thanh Hao, director of Hao Dong Tea Cooperative. .
“It’s not green like teas from other regions, but an attractive honey-y yellow color. Its eye-catching color and unique flavor are hard to find anywhere else.”
The local soil is said to contain the right proportions of trace elements specific to tea plants. The natural water from Lake Nui Kok is used as a water source to further enhance the flavor and richness of the tea. On the other hand, the microclimate on the east side of the Tam Dao Mountains at an altitude of about 1,000 meters is ideal for growing crops.
Thai Nguyen tea is currently exported to many countries and regions around the world, including Russia, America, Japan, Europe, and the Middle East.
Local authorities have issued a resolution approving a project to preserve and develop the tea specialty area of Tan Cun City from 2021 to 2025. It is mandatory that 100 percent of tea products be produced by joint enterprises or cooperatives in accordance with safety standards. All require a planting area code, packaging facility code, and traceability stamp. By 2025, as many as 70 tea products will be certified to meet the One Commune, One Product criteria.
The ministry has built a tea culture space in the basement of the Thai Nguyen Museum in Thanh Cun City. There are many documents and artifacts related to tea cultivation, care, and processing.
