ASTANA — With three months remaining until the opening of the Paris Olympics, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzikpayev expressed his expectations for Kazakh athletes, Kazinform news agency reported.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, Kazakh athletes have obtained 51 licenses.
“There are still 25 sanctioned rating tournaments left ahead. We have to decide the lineup, who we will box with and the competitors. A weightlifter was left without a license,” Marzikpayev said.
Despite the difficulties, Marzikpayev highlighted the new sport in which Kazakhstan is progressing.
“We’ve never had six shooting licenses and five archery licenses,” he said, pointing out the possibility of another “surprise.”
The country’s leading sports remain boxing, tennis, and wrestling.
Highlights of Kazakh players’ performances
Last month, Kazakh athletes won 43 licenses across 14 sports in preparation for the Paris Olympics.
Since then, Kazakhstan’s national cycling team has received its 51st Olympic license, earning it the right to compete in the keirin and sprint.
On May 3, Elzhana Tanyeva won the gold medal at the Asian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, earning her a spot in Paris.
Kazakhstan has three freestyle wrestlers, including Azamat Dauletbekov (86 kg), Alisher Yergali (97 kg), Yusup Bachirmurzaev (125 kg), four Greco-Roman wrestlers, Aydos Sultangali (60 kg), Demeu Zadraev (77kg) will participate. , Nursultan Turshinov (87 kg), Alimkhan Shizdikov (130 kg).
Kazakhstan’s taekwondo team, consisting of two athletes, Samirkhon Ababakirov and Batyrkhan Treugari, defeated athletes from India and Saudi Arabia to secure a spot in the 80kg weight class and qualify for the Paris Olympics.
“When I fought for an Olympic ticket, I was aware of the responsibility. I owe a lot to the coaching staff who believed in me no matter what and gave me the opportunity to prove myself at a high level. The men’s fencing team achieved a historic performance for Kazakhstan at the World Cup held in Georgia on March 23rd. Until now, the Kazakh national team had not participated in the Olympic team fencing competition. Kazakhstan’s fencing team, which includes Ruslan Kurbanov, Vadim Sharlaimov, Elmil Alimzhanov and Yelik Sertai, has received an Olympic license for the first time.
