INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Today is National Travel and Tourism Week. There are many events happening this year that encourage people to visit Indianapolis.
2024 is proving to be a strong year for tourism in Indianapolis. Events like the NBA All-Star Game, the solar eclipse, and even his NFL.
“I can confidently say this is the city of Indianapolis’ biggest year ever for the tourism industry,” said Claire Clark, Visit Indy’s senior communications manager. “And what better week than the Indy 500 to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week? [and] The Pacers continue to make the playoffs. ”
May is traditionally the biggest month for tourists due to the Indy 500. According to Clark, the track had 500,000 visitors in May alone.
Indy shows no signs of slowing down in terms of tourism. The United States Olympic Swimming Championships will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium for nine days from June 15th to 20th.
The number of tourists is expected to increase this year, and the city’s economy is expected to be revitalized.
“We welcome 30 million visitors to Indianapolis every year, which equates to approximately $5.8 billion in economic impact. We employ about 83,000 hospitality members in Indianapolis, so this is just a huge industry and we’re excited to celebrate this week. ,” Clark says.
