BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) – Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a message on the 22nd to the 14th China-America Tourism Leadership Summit held in Xi’an, northwestern China’s Shaanxi Province.
Noting that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-US relations, President Xi said that the foundation of China-US relations was laid by the people, and the door of China-US relations was opened by the people. The story of China-US relations is written by the people, and the future of China-US relations will be jointly created by the peoples of the two countries.
President Xi said that tourism is an important bridge for exchanges and mutual understanding between the peoples of China and the United States. “We warmly welcome American tourists to travel to China, meet Chinese friends, experience Chinese culture, visit beautiful scenery, and experience the real China.”
“I hope that this summit will be an opportunity for people from all walks of life in the two countries to deepen exchanges, reach common understanding, and take proactive steps to promote people-to-people exchanges through tourism cooperation, so as to uphold China-US friendly relations through cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and contribute to the realization of the San Francisco Initiative,” Xi said.
The summit opened on the same day in Xi’an with the theme of “Expanding travel, tourism and people-to-people exchanges in Central America.” It is co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, the US Department of Commerce, and Brand USA. ■
