National carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) and the United Nations Tourism Organization have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening efforts to promote sustainable tourism and civil aviation globally, the airline announced on Wednesday.
Turkish Airlines said in a statement that the partnership will focus on promoting sustainable tourism practices, promoting aviation development and expanding public-private cooperation to advance the advancement of air connectivity, especially in emerging destinations.
Flag carriers and the United Nations tourism agency will draw on their expertise and guidance in their respective fields, exchange knowledge and work on case studies on topics such as sustainable aviation fuels.
Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Borat said: “We are excited to embark on this journey of building a strategic partnership with the United Nations Tourism Organization to achieve our shared goal of promoting sustainable tourism and strengthening global connectivity.”
“This potential partnership underscores our commitment to sustainable tourism and underlines our role as a global connector connecting people and cultures around the world,” he added.
“With the signing of the MoU, we enter into a natural partnership to further our commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. Turkish Airlines is a global pioneer in promoting tourism and cultural exchange,” said Ion Vilk, UNWTO Director of Member States. “It will undoubtedly be a historic day that will not only highlight local heritage but also promote citizen engagement and cultural diversity.”
Boasting a vast aviation network, Turkish Airlines also promotes sustainability initiatives by connecting different regions and cultures and pioneering initiatives in this field. Earlier this week, the country’s iconic airline celebrated its 91st anniversary.
