As part of efforts to end medical tourism in the country, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has advised governments at all levels to increase investment in the health sector to improve health services.He said funding the health sector would curb the urge of Nigerians to go on medical trips abroad, urging both the Federal and state governments to improve budgetary allocations for the health sector to discourage overseas medical tourism.
The King, speaking at the inauguration of a Primary Health Care Centre constructed and equipped by Sunti Sugar Company for Kanji community in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, commended the company for its regular intervention in the community as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
According to him, “If medical facilities across the country were standardised and equipped to meet global standards, the frenzy to seek treatment abroad would be significantly reduced and the exodus of medical talent occurring in the country would also be halted. I urge the Union Government and all state governments to improve budgetary allocations for the health sector.”
Etsu, who was represented by the Galadima Raba, Alhaji Mohammed Gimba Abubakar, said: “Over the past few years, Sunti Sugar has been involved in opening and maintaining roads, building schools and supplying drinking water to the community as well as the state.
