TEHRAN – Iran will host the third National Symposium on Tourism and Green Investment, focusing on promoting green economy and entrepreneurship and innovation in the tourism industry.
The event will be held on June 18-19 by the Iran University of Science and Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Committee of the Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Until now, green economy and tourism investments have often been seen as mere attention-grabbing slogans or remained in the realm of scientific hypotheses, but the increasing attention given to the topic by the United Nations Tourism and its designation as the theme for World Tourism Day in 2023 are bringing it into sharper focus, especially in developing countries.
The symposium, which will be held at the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tehran, aims to fulfill the university’s educational and promotional mission with the support of the Iranian Scientific and Tourism Association.
It aims to promote the exchange of ideas between academics and entrepreneurs, foster connections between tourism industry professionals and collaborate with government agencies in policy development.
Given Iran’s rich history and potential in green tourism investment, the symposium aims to develop supporting policies, build a network of stakeholders and support innovative ideas to pave the way for green tourism growth and increased investment.
Boasting diverse natural landscapes and priceless cultural heritage, Iran has already taken steps to promote green tourism, with a focus on minimizing the negative impact of traditional tourism on the environment through sustainable practices.
Iran’s tourism industry can benefit from green tourism in a number of ways. First, green tourism can help diversify Iran’s tourism beyond its historical and cultural attractions. By highlighting its natural beauty and wildlife, Iran can attract a new demographic of travelers interested in eco-tourism experiences.
Second, green tourism can boost local economies. Ecotourism activities such as hiking and camping require local guides, porters and other support staff, providing employment opportunities for rural people. In addition, ecotourism can foster the development of small businesses such as eco-lodges, organic farms and handicraft shops, generating income for local communities.
Third, green tourism promotes environmental protection and sustainable development. By encouraging responsible tourism practices, such as reducing waste, conserving water, and protecting wildlife, Iran can preserve its natural resources for future generations. Additionally, eco-tourism can raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable development practices within local communities.
Green tourism, also known as sustainable tourism, is a growing trend in the global tourism industry. It promotes environmentally friendly practices and supports local communities to ensure tourism has a positive impact on the environment and society.
