TEHRAN – Kermanshah province in western Iran is stepping up all efforts to be recognized as a child-friendly tourist destination.
“Registering the province as a child-friendly tourism hub,” the deputy tourism minister for Kermanshah province stressed. “This is at the top of the agenda.”
Vahid Amiri elaborated that taking into account the capabilities within the province, measures are underway to secure Kermanshah province as a children’s tourism destination, as well as its previous recognition as a creative city of gastronomy by UNESCO.
He added that a special pavilion is being prepared for the upcoming Tehran International Tourism Expo, aiming to acquaint audiences with Kermanshah province’s capabilities in this field.
Regarding the organisations involved, Amiri noted that the child-friendly tourism strategy document will be developed in collaboration with local departments, including the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Youth and the Ministry of Education Headquarters.
“We are making every effort,” he stressed, “and given the capacity of our education system, we are able to organize more than two million student excursions per year in the form of sightseeing tours.”
According to Amiri, the objectives set out in the initiative include acquainting the younger generation with the tourism industry and its basic principles, encouraging and motivating the private sector to take the lead in the tourism sector, and optimally utilising available resources for this purpose.
“We aim to encourage this highly talented generation to become developers and drivers of the state’s capabilities in the tourism sector,” he concluded.
Child-friendly destinations are places that are specifically designed or adapted for families with children. These destinations emphasize safety, entertainment and convenience to ensure a memorable and stress-free experience for both kids and their parents.
Restaurants and eateries in these destinations usually offer children’s menus, high chairs and sometimes even play areas, making dining out fun for the whole family.
Kermanshah was previously designated a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, so establishing itself as a child-friendly destination could also help boost tourism in the entire province.
