This annual event gives frontline tourism staff the opportunity to experience local destinations first-hand.
This summer, tourism staff were given a special experience to enhance the tourism experience for people visiting the Vernon area.
The annual Familiarisation (FAM) Tour Day provided frontline tourism staff with first-class experiences at local destinations, an initiative aimed at empowering ambassadors to share more personal experiences with guests.
Participants consisted primarily of front-desk staff from local hotels and visited six local businesses.
“By visiting local attractions and businesses and experiencing Vernon as a tourist, participating frontline staff gain valuable insight,” said Tory Silverthorne, manager of Vernon Tourism. “These experiences equip staff with the knowledge and understanding they need to provide informed advice to visitors.”
The FAM Tour Day is an initiative designed to educate frontline staff in the hospitality industry, and Mayor Victor Cumming described it as “critically important” to invest in such initiatives as a way to strengthen the industry.
“Giving them first-hand experience and knowledge will enable them to develop a genuine connection to what our city has to offer and share it wholeheartedly with our visitors.”
