BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) — The three-day Dragon Boat Festival has boosted tourism in Beijing, attracting a total of 7.79 million tourists over the holiday period from Saturday to Monday.
According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, more than 2,100 cultural tourism events were held to attract tourists, with total tourism spending exceeding 10 billion yuan (about US$1.38 billion).
Wangfujing and Qianmen shopping districts, the historic Nanluoguxiang, Beijing Olympic Park, Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven are some of the most visited attractions.
According to statistics from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the number of visitors to the city’s 60 major business districts exceeded 22.8 million, up 10.3 percent from last year, and consumption reached 6.57 billion yuan, up 12.9 percent.
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday. This year it fell on the fifth Monday of the fifth month of the lunar calendar.
China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Monday that the number of domestic tourists during the holiday period reached 110 million, up 6.3 percent from the same period last year.
