More than 43 million people will travel for Memorial Day this year, with three of the top 10 tourist destinations in the nation over the three-day holiday weekend being in Florida, according to a recent survey by the American Automobile Association (AAA).
That’s a 4% increase from the number of people who traveled over the holiday weekend in 2023, and will see Memorial Day weekend travel numbers reach nearly 44 million for the first time since 2005, AAA reported.
“We haven’t seen such high travel volume over Memorial Day weekend in almost 20 years,” Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel, said in the survey.
“We are forecasting an increase of 1 million travelers this holiday weekend compared to 2019. Not only is this above pre-pandemic levels, but it also signals a very busy summer travel season ahead.”
