The body of a 70-year-old American tourist who had been missing since Tuesday on the Greek island of Matraki was found Sunday, while the search continued for several other tourists who remain missing on another island.
Greek media reported that the man’s body was discovered by another tourist, according to Euronews. The man, whose identity has not been released, was last seen with two female tourists at a tavern in Matraki, west of Corfu. Investigators told ABC News that the man had been staying with a Greek-American friend in Matraki, who returned home Thursday to find the door open, the lights and air conditioning on, and the guests and travel documents missing. The women with him had already left the island.
Another tourist found the man’s body in the sea near the port of Matlaki and called police, according to CBS News.
He was the second missing tourist found dead within days on the Greek island. The body of a 74-year-old Dutch tourist who went missing on the Greek island of Samos was found face-down in a ravine on Saturday. He had last been seen last Sunday staggering along in the scorching heat.
