The new bill submitted to parliament brings Greece closer to the dream of “establishing itself as a global tourism powerhouse unmatched in its multifaceted tourism offering and viable development of destinations and tourism products,” Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni told the Standing Committee on Production and Trade on Friday.
The bill, entitled “Supporting tourism infrastructure and education, improving the tour guide profession and timeshare rental framework, regulating tourist agencies and other regulations supporting tourism,” is being introduced at a time that signals a positive message and features for Greek tourism, the minister said.
As an example, she said Greece is ranked in the top 10 most popular travel destinations in the world and has already seen strong performance in revenue and arrivals this year.
But she added that “we are at a critical stage in protecting the conditions that allow tourism to deliver long-term benefits to national economies and local communities.”
To this end, the Minister added: “We are opening a new chapter for Greek tourism with a focus on quality tourism development. This new initiative will build on existing dynamics and utilize all of our country’s comparative advantages. We are now planning and implementing policies and actions for Greek tourism for the coming decades.”
