In the opinion of ministry officials, the approval of Bill 2,234/2022 could bring investment to the country and boost the tourism sector.
The project has been in the works for over 30 years in parliament. It was approved by parliament in 2022 and by the CCJ (Senate Committee on Constitutional and Judicial Affairs) on the 19th. It will now go to the plenary session.
Celso Sabino has met in recent weeks with Senator Davi Alcolumbre, who heads the CCJ and has influence in Congress, as well as senators from the PSD, MDB and PDT parties.
The minister has been in talks with members of Congress and government officials to drum up support for the game’s release in Brazil. The minister believes the initiative will not only attract tourists to Brazil, but also big investments in hotels and infrastructure. Celso Sabino has a strong supporter in Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services Gerardo Alcmin.
Recently, Sabino revealed that one of the companies interested in investing in Brazil is Hard Rock International, with the group’s CEO Jim Allen even saying that they are “waiting for this project to be approved before deciding where to build something here.”
Celso Sabino said Jim Allen also wants to set up other properties in Brazil that would be managed by the company if Congress approves the casino. “A resort-casino project would definitely generate even more interest among the big chains,” he said.
