On Monday, Panama’s President-elect Jose Raul Mulino and his Dominican Republic counterpart Luis Abinader agreed to boost tourism between the two countries.

President Mulino emphasized that during his first bilateral meeting with the heads of state attending the inauguration at the Sheraton Hotel in the capital, the two countries also agreed to strengthen friendly relations.
“We have the spirit that we can have a closer relationship with the Dominican Republic, from meringue to politics,” he said.
He also stressed his interest in getting all the support of Santo Domingo with a view to following the development of the leisure industry.

“Panama has everything it needs to develop tourism, but after 10 years of stagnation, we need to create jobs and increase hotel capacity,” he added.

President Murino is scheduled to meet later that day with Spain’s King Felipe VI, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who are attending a presidential power transfer ceremony at the Atlapa Convention Center, along with other presidents, foreign ministers and representatives from more than 20 countries.
