The dream of a Las Vegas spaceport is moving closer to reality after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted key approval to build a new administrative airport near Pahrump, Nevada.
Located on the outskirts of the desert, the 240-acre facility is envisioned as the cornerstone of an ambitious spaceport project, and last month Clark County commissioners unanimously approved building permits, paving the way for this momentous development.
“The FAA’s approval marks a landmark step forward for Las Vegas Executive Airport and the broader vision for Las Vegas Spaceport,” said Las Vegas Spaceport CEO Robert Lauer. “We are encouraged by the support we’ve received and look forward to continuing on this journey.”
Lauer emphasized the project’s potential to revitalize the space economy and bring thousands of good-paying jobs to the Las Vegas region, Clark County and throughout the state of Nevada.
The new airport is expected to serve as a launch pad for commercial and private space tourism operations, positioning Las Vegas as a major player in this burgeoning industry. Groundbreaking on the project is expected within the next three months.
The news comes amid growing interest in space tourism, with companies like Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin actively developing spaceflight programs, and Las Vegas, known for its entertainment and adventure, is poised to become a top destination for those seeking out-of-this-world experiences.
