Some tourists are reluctant to let the threat of Hurricane Beryl disrupt their Fourth of July celebration plans.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While many coastal communities are keeping their eyes on the tropics as Hurricane Beryl passes through, some are still turning their attention to the beaches.
Brett Stower, CEO and president of the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce, said the upcoming holiday weekend will be a big revenue generator for the coastal town.
“The Fourth of July is the biggest holiday of the year for Port Aransas and tourism, it’s the biggest economic boost and the biggest visitor day,” he said.
Stower said the check-ins have been consistent as he and his team have monitored the storm.
“Lodging costs alone will be a hit of more than $7 million this week,” he said.
“We are prepared,” Stower said. “The city is prepared, all departments are meeting, all our emergency services are ready to go.”
Jaylee and her family have been visiting Port Aransas Beach for the past 10 years for their annual summer family vacation, with family members coming from as far away as Dallas, El Paso and even Tulsa, Okla. The family is keeping a close eye on Hurricane Beryl, but the storm isn’t going to hinder their plans, the family said.
“We’ve been keeping an eye on it and we’re trying to beat it, and by the time it hits we’ll be out of here,” they said.
The family told 3NEWS they plan to enjoy all that Port Aransas has to offer.
“Spikeball, fishing, good food, Grumbles and later we’ll go to Crazy Cajun,” they said.
