LANSING, W.Va. (WVNS) – Sunshine and warm weather have people in the Mountain State seeking out more outdoor activities these days, especially during the summer.
With an increase in tourists visiting the state, Adventures on the Gorge employees are always available, and one way tourists can beat the heat is through water activities.
Are there river otters in West Virginia?
Site coordinator Molly McKeown said the river was one of the area’s most popular tourist attractions.
“We love taking everyone on stand-up paddle boards, and we also have flat-water kayaks. The best thing about the river is it’s cooler. It’s cooler than in the city,” McKeon said.
McKeown said summer is also the busiest time for pedestrians, and visitation has increased since Summersville Lake was designated a state park.
“This is a big boost and a really exciting thing for the region because it shows people why we love West Virginia so much and all that this great state has to offer,” McKeon said.
