As the European summer approaches, analysis from digital travel platform Agoda highlights that Asia is the top destination for European travellers. Not only is Asia the most popular region outside of Europe, it is also garnering attention, with Agoda recording a 52% increase in accommodation searches by Europeans compared to last year. Notably, European searches for accommodation in India have increased by 26%.
According to Agoda data, the Asian destinations most sought after by Europeans are Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, with Malaysia and the Philippines also making the list. These countries cater to a variety of interests, from Bangkok’s vibrant streets and historical architecture to Bali’s surfer-friendly shores, illustrating the broad appeal of Asian locations. The top searches come from the UK, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
India is the 9th most popular Asian travel destination for Europeans, with the highest number of searches coming from the UK, followed by Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands. European interest in Indian destinations such as Lonavala, New Delhi and Chennai continues to grow. These areas offer a blend of leisure, adventure and cultural activities that are ideal for a well-earned summer holiday.
Krishna Rathi, Agoda’s Senior Country Director, Indian Subcontinent, Sri Lanka and Maldives, said: “The increase in searches compared to last year shows that Asia is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination among Europeans. The impact of this trend is not only being felt in Southeast Asia and Japan, but also in India. It’s great to see more Europeans visiting these fantastic destinations while on holiday.”
