ROCHESTER, Minn. – Trade-related jobs are in high demand and offer many benefits beyond the workplace. High school graduates have the opportunity to gain practical experience in the industry. All Craft Exteriors has an “All Craft University” program, and this is his second year.
The ‘All Craft University’ program is a six-week paid course of study that provides high school graduates with trade industry experience and knowledge. Last year he had a group of six people, all of whom graduated from the program.
These students learned the basics to develop entry-level construction trade skills. This class covers everything from tool safety to on-site project assistance.
General Manager Jewels Decorcy explains why this program is a great option for students fresh out of high school.
“These ladies and gentlemen are learning things that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to learn in any school because industrial technology classes and classes in some schools have been canceled,” Decorcy said. These are the basics for getting an entry-level construction job.
The company has already seen twice as many applications as last year, and the program is helping Rochester cope with its expansion.
Mr. Decorcy said: “Given how quickly Rochester is growing, who’s going to build those new elementary schools? Who’s going to put new roofs on those houses for people moving here? ?So trade is very important and what we’re really trying to do is create our own workforce.”
This year, we are looking for 6 to 8 applicants. For those interested, the deadline is May 10th.
