Under the theme “Innovative Pathways Towards Sustainable Tourism Growth”, the statement emphasises the need for innovative approaches to address current challenges in the tourism sector and highlights the benefits of transitioning tourism enterprises into the formal economy, supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and building resilience.
The Ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to building a resilient tourism ecosystem that can withstand extreme weather, natural disasters and global health crises, thereby protecting livelihoods, preserving cultural heritage and promoting inclusive growth.
The Ministers noted Peru’s efforts towards establishing a platform aimed at promoting cooperation among APEC economies on sustainable tourism development in the Asia-Pacific region.
The statement also stressed the need to promote sustainable gastronomy, food production, processing and consumption patterns to minimize the environmental impact of tourism activities in the region.
