TAHOE CITY, Calif. – Four capital projects in eastern Placer County, totaling approximately $2.7 million, were approved by the Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to further regional goals including transportation and recreation improvements.
Revenue from the City of Tahoe’s temporary occupancy tax is used to fund projects solicited, vetted, and recommended through the North Tahoe Community Alliance Board of Directors, TOT Committee, Capital Projects Advisory Committee, and promoted through TOT-TBID dollars. The Board approved TOT funding totaling $2,680,000 for the following projects over the next year:
$250,000 in TOT funds for the North Tahoe Recreation Access Planning Project led by Placer County in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service $2 million in construction of Martis Valley Trail Segment 3 through Northstar Community Services District Tahoe Cross $400,000 for Phase 2 Construction of Country Lodge Project Overseen by Tahoe Cross-Country Ski Educational Association $30,000 for construction of the North Tahoe Mountain Bike Trail/FS 73 Bypass through the Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service
“Partnerships like this with the U.S. Forest Service and Northstar allow us to maximize our contributions to TOT,” said District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson. “These projects are important additions to our community to ensure additional recreational opportunities and, more importantly, alternative transportation options for both residents and visitors.”
In 2021, the North Tahoe Recreation Access Plan identified more than 20 existing access locations on public lands that require improvements to recreational trails, trailheads, and related facilities. The contract approved today allocates $250,000 for improvements to existing infrastructure at the property, located off Serin Drive in Truckee.
TOT’s $2 million in funds will go towards the Martis Valley Tail, a 16-mile paved Class 1 multi-use trail that passes through Martis Valley and Northstar California Resort and climbs a ridge in Lake Tahoe Basin. This contract will fund the construction of Segment 3F, which will complete the trail from the Northstar Castle Peak parking lot to The Village at Northstar.
The board also approved $400,000 to fund the Tahoe Cross Country Lodge project. This included project management, contracting, and consulting for the relocation and adaptive reuse of a historic 1930s home as a new year-round outdoor recreation trailhead and community gathering location for Tahoe Cross Country. Finally, the board approved the construction of one mile of singletrack trail connecting the foothills of the Anton Meadows area with the Whoop Dee Do Trail and the Painted Rock section of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Approved $1 million. This trail connection is located three miles northwest of Tahoe City, and the project is a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
