Outbound Travel 2024: Asia is booming, Europe is slowing down
Written by Saniya Zampure
Skift Research’s Global Travel Outlook 2024 takes an in-depth look at the key regions driving global travel performance and growth. Looking ahead to 2024, we expect Europe to normalize to stable growth levels and Asia-Pacific to become the key growth driver.
The Skift Travel Health Index reveals that all regions are recovering. Growth in Europe has been depressed due to the influence of multiple economic and geopolitical factors. Global travel averages have surpassed pre-pandemic levels as the Asia-Pacific region rebounds, driven by China’s economic reopening and strong domestic travel.
Now that the full impact of open borders has become a reality, the moment for Asia’s revenge journey has arrived. There is significant scope for the region to recover and then grow further. We believe Europe’s revenge travel boom is stable and that lingering geopolitical instability, economics and extreme weather events may impact tourist numbers in the region. We expect growth in all regions, but Asia Pacific will be stronger than Europe, which is slowing.
