People are disappearing at an alarming rate in America’s national parks, with at least 10 people having vanished since 2016 and never been seen again, according to data reviewed by The Washington Post. One was a hiker whose last message was to tell his son he was on his way to Yosemite National Park. Another man became separated from his group during a nine-day trip through the stifling heat of the Grand Canyon. That is mostly true. Outdoor beauty, though, as found in nature, is far less subjective. I don’t think anyone has stood on the lip of the Grand Canyon, peering down 5,000 feet, and thought, Meh. With that sense of scientific objectivity in mind, I’ve developed a list of the 11 most beautiful hikes in our national parks. CNN — Steve Perillo, CEO and third-generation owner of New Jersey-based tour operator Perillo Tours, said he hasn’t seen a surge in travelers booking trips to Europe since the 1970s. The company, best known for its bespoke tours to Italy, typically sells about 80% of its annual capacity, Perillo said. So far in 2023, about 96% of the company’s 500 annual flights have been booked, including destinations in Spain and Greece, and Perillo said the company will continue to increase the number of flights until it begins marketing for the 2024 season. It expects that number to reach 100% within…

Hong Kong CNN — Every day, countless mopeds criss-cross the congested city of Hanoi, in Vietnam, with commuters traveling to work or motorbike taxis dropping off everything from parcels to cooked food and clients. But an unprecedented heat wave that engulfed his country in the past two months has made Phong’s job even more arduous. To get through the heat of the day, he equipped…
This article was produced by National Geographic Traveller (UK).The name ‘Silk Road’ evokes images of Marco Polo and endless camel caravans stretching from Beijing to Baghdad and on to the Venetian Lagoon. But the fact is there was no single, definitive trail. Rather, the Silk Road was an umbrella term for a web of trade routes between China and Europe formed over a period of around 1,600 years, from the second century BC to 1450. While these routes wound as far south as India and Southeast Asia, most of their traffic moved overland through the heart of Central Asia, over…
