This is part of our global guide to the best places to go in 2024. Check out more travel inspiration here.
The reasons we travel are as varied and varied as the places we visit. Some days, we seek out breathtaking natural landscapes and boundary-pushing adventures. Next, we crave the swankiest hotels and the liveliest nightlife. The biggest question in a vast region like North America, which boasts everything from rolling plains to mossy rainforests to towering mountains, is how to choose.
Sure, something fresh has its appeal. In Detroit, for example, the long-awaited Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park project will revolutionize the city’s western riverfront in summer 2024. Just a short drive away, the iconic Bonstel Theater will be reimagined as an event and bar space to celebrate for any reason. In Riviera Nayarit, along Mexico’s central Pacific coast, luxury new hotels such as the Rosewood and the St. Regis are adding a touch of luxury to the laid-back surf beaches.
Similarly, there’s a novelty to the revival of old favorites. In Tucson, the culturally rich Barrio Viejo neighborhood, long a magnet for gourmets and backcountry adventurers, will be expanded by 2024, anchored by the soon-to-be-restored Teatro Carmen and more restaurants and cafes to come. It is scheduled to be designated a National Historic Landmark in 2019. And in Mobile, Alabama, a new Amtrak route connects the port city with sibling rival New Orleans, just in time to shine a year-long spotlight on African American history and a new civil rights and cultural heritage district. Will be on time.
But perhaps nothing is more exciting than the opportunity to forge a connection to uncharted territory. Quebec’s northernmost Nunavik will offer Inuit-led adventures on the uninhabited Gilfalcon Islands in Angava Bay for the next year. Valuable access to a treasure trove of wildlife.
All this and more awaits in our list of the best places to go in North America and the Caribbean in 2024. A vibrant, pristine and uplifting destination that celebrates the diversity of this continent.
