Over the past 16 years, Executive Director Bill Stevens has been the steady head of the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism and Convention Board, responsible for promoting a deep budget and potential visitors to the local community.
Stevens informed the board Tuesday afternoon that his term will end July 31, citing personal reasons.
The board is expected to take a significant amount of time to find a replacement, which is why a new person is not expected to be hired before the next meeting scheduled for Aug. 13. Outside of mayor, judge, police chief, sheriff and school superintendent, this position is one of the most important in Trigg County simply because of the tax administration required.
Over the past two decades, the development of U.S. 68/80 and the acceleration of digital media have brought more people to Southwest Kentucky, making the growth of tourism in Trigg County and the city of Cadiz impossible to ignore.
Stevens said he will continue to be available for questions, concerns and advice, but will only be available in an advisory role.
More tourism news:
— Stevens said more than 85 vehicles, owners, friends and family participated in the recent Cadiz Cruise-In at West Cadiz Park, and the celebration held at Lake Berkeley State Resort Park on July 6 was a huge success without any major setbacks.
— Board members also will spend the next month deciding on a new or reappointed chairman and treasurer after opening up nominations. Deepak Patel currently serves as chairman and Lucas Hale serves as treasurer.
