Cancun has positioned itself as Mexico’s main gateway for international tourism, topping the country’s list of destinations with 3.2 million visitors in the first quarter.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, this represents a 6.2% increase from the previous year, with a notable increase in travelers from the United States and Canada. This puts it ahead of other airports such as Mexico City, which welcomed a total of 1.4 million passengers, and in third place was Puerto Vallarta, which welcomed 886,000 tourists.
The largest number of tourists came from the United States, with 2.1 million, and there was also a significant increase in tourists from Canada, with 811,000 tourists arriving by plane to Quintana Roo, continuing to make the state one of the most popular tourist destinations for foreigners.
According to the Sectur report, the main international tourist countries that arrived by air in Mexico during this period were the United States, Canada and Colombia, with the number of tourists reaching 6.712 million, a 7.7% increase from the previous year.
Quintana Roo is served by airlines with 109 cities, of which 35 are in the United States, 18 in Canada, 16 in Latin America, 15 in Europe and the rest are domestic.
The Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council is working on a campaign to maintain current markets and attract new ones in order to continuously increase tourist arrivals.
In Latin America, efforts are being made to attract the Colombian market, which will see a total of 80,000 tourists, and the Argentine market, which will see 76,000 visitors.
In terms of European tourism, just over 100,000 tourists were reported from the UK, just over 56,000 from Germany and just over 46,000 from Spain.
