May is the official start of the summer travel season, and National Travel and Tourism Week is the perfect time to reflect on the importance of travel and tourism to our physical and mental health, social well-being, and economy. Travel has the immense power to change our perspective, bring balance to our lives, and open our eyes to new opportunities. Whether it’s a trip to a nearby community festival or hiking trail, or a flight to another continent, traveling is good for your body, mind, and soul.
Travel and tourism are also a key part of North Dakota’s diversified economy. A new study shows that visitors will spend more than $3.3 billion in the state in 2023, impacting all 53 counties. In fact, visitors spend $9 million a day in North Dakota. These funds help sustain 3,000 businesses, including your favorite restaurants, shops and entertainment venues. North Dakota saw an additional 1.3 million trips last year, bringing the total to 25.6 million visitors.
