The United States has an incredible number of national parks, each offering a unique experience. These parks have diverse ecosystems and recreational opportunities. These preserves are overseen by the National Park Service, which works to protect the natural and historical wonders within them. As of 2024, there are 63 national parks scattered across the country, attracting adventurers and nature lovers.
The spirit of conservation runs deep in the United States, and this is evident in our National Park System. Established in 1872, Yellowstone National Park has the distinction of being the first national park not only in the United States, but perhaps in the entire world. Since then, the country has enthusiastically expanded its protected areas.
The Library of Congress states: “On March 1, President Grant signed this bill, establishing the Yellowstone region as a public park and setting an important conservation precedent. This country had its first national park. Extraordinary beauty. This area was set aside for future generations to enjoy, and a tradition of preserving similar areas was established.”
Below is a list of all national parks in the United States.
