65 employees will receive certificates
Willemstad – Curacao’s residential tourism is increasing from all major markets, including Brazil. Currently, Brazil is among the top five markets for Curacao’s highest number of overnight visitors. In 2023, Curacao ended the year with over 26,000 guests from Brazil. In the first quarter of this year alone, Curaçao welcomed 10,552 guests from Brazil. This increase is due to increased air connections, including new direct flights from Brazil introduced last June. In view of the increasing number of Brazilian tourists, the Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB) has designed a basic Portuguese language course for employees of the tourism industry who have direct contact with tourists. 65 employees from the tourism industry completed the course and received a certificate from Luisandro Cinche, Minister of Economic Development.
The course was delivered over 10 weeks and was divided into two sessions of 2 hours each per week. The instructor for this language course is Márcio Hipolito Pinto, a Portuguese language expert from Brazil. This course consists of interactive sessions, phrase creation, conversations, pronunciation, assignments, and tests. This course was a great opportunity for participants to learn the tools they need to communicate more comfortably with Brazilian tourists. Participants included staff from accommodation, transportation, diving, airports, immigration, customs, tour guides and tourist attractions, as well as staff from the Ministry of Economic Development and the CTB itself.
CTB remains focused on investing in programs aimed at improving the overall tourism experience.
