CAIRO, July 2 (Bernama/Xinhua) — Egypt announced on Monday that tourism revenue for the first half of 2024 will reach $6.6 billion, surpassing the $6.3 billion recorded in the same period in 2023, Xinhua reported.
The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said in a statement that tourist numbers reached a record high of 7,069,000 in the first half of 2024.
Tourist overnight stays reached 70.2 million from January to June, beating last year’s record of 67.6 million.
Egypt aims to accommodate 30 million tourists by 2028 by increasing the provision of inbound airline seats and hotel rooms across the country as part of a national strategy to boost tourism.
Egypt is set to welcome a record 14.9 million tourists in 2023. The tourism sector is one of the country’s main sources of foreign exchange, accounts for around 12 percent of GDP and provides jobs to around 3 million people.
