Peak tourist season is just around the corner, and local RCMP are preparing for it.
The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD) is deploying an enhanced policing program to ensure the safety of tourists as they flock to the region.
Lakes like Harrison and Cultus Lake are popular summer tourist destinations, but the influx of tourists has created a need for additional safety and security measures.

RCMP said it will focus on increasing its presence on forest service roads, local lakes and campgrounds in hopes of cracking down on impaired driving and controlling disturbances, excessive noise and parties. Boaters should ensure that all passengers are equipped with life jackets. They must be responsible on the water, abide by speed limits, and avoid operating their boat under the influence.
ATV riders should wear helmets and protective clothing and only ride in designated areas.
Impaired driving ability is a serious threat to public safety. As a result, RCMP has increased inspections and patrols to deter driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs and other substances.
