Gastronomic tourism is popular in Hungary. Our small country boasts the perfect blend of incredible culture, historic monuments and stunning natural reserves, while unparalleled gastronomy is attracting more and more people to our country . Gastronomic tourism in Hungary is on the rise, with more and more people visiting the country to experience the best of Hungarian cuisine, the president of the Panon Academy of Gastronomy and the Hungarian Caterers Association told The Loadstar.
Gourmet tourism is growing in Hungary
As gastronomic tourism grows in Hungary, the number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the country could also increase, according to Balázs Čapodi, president of the Panon Academy of Gastronomy. Currently, there are two Michelin two-star restaurants, seven Michelin one-star restaurants, and six so-called Bib Gourmand restaurants in Japan. Bib Gourmand restaurants are value for money catering establishments that offer high quality food at low prices.
Chapodi says these places that serve high-quality food are in demand, and more people are consciously choosing their restaurants for the best quality.
“More people are buying high-quality meat and bread from local producers, and some foreigners are visiting Hungarian destinations for restaurants and wine.”
he added. Experts say there could be even more guests this year. He believes domestic tourism will pick up and people will spend more as real wages rise.
Hungary has great experts
According to László Kovács, president of the Hungarian Caterers Association, the fact that the Hungarian team reached the finals of this year’s Bocuse d’Or International Culinary Competition in Lyon shows that the country has excellent professionals. It is said that there is. “Hungarians are at the forefront of Europe and their work has a huge impact not only on their immediate environment, but also on the profession as a whole,” he stressed.
Kovacs added that Hungary’s good position in gastronomy extends not only in the region but also worldwide. “Hungarian cuisine is world class,” he said, adding that more and more foreign tourists are visiting the country with the express intention of getting to know Hungarian gastronomy and trying its cuisine. As an example, he said the variety of Hungarian soups, including thin soups, meat soups, ragu soups and concentrated soups, is unlike that found in many other cultures.
