Governor Youngkin donates $32,500 to Danville Economic Development and Tourism Authority

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that the City of Danville’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DOEDT) has been awarded $32,500 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) Marketing Leverage Program.

DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that the City of Danville’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DOEDT) has been awarded $32,500 from the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) Marketing Leverage Program.

DOEDT will use the funds to promote Visit SoSi’s “So Let’s Go” digital marketing campaign, which targets residents of nearby communities and promotes the recreational opportunities, hidden gems and enriching experiences that can be had on short getaways in Danville and Pittsylvania County. Advertisements will feature Visit SoSi activities and itineraries, including history and architecture, arts and culture, festivals and events, food and drink, adventure recreation and family-friendly events.

“Visit SoSi’s ‘Let’s Go’ campaign builds on tourism success over the past year, capitalising on a real opportunity and further demonstrating the benefits of a regional approach to tourism promotion at a time when so many businesses and potential investors are watching and taking notice,” said tourism manager Lisa Meriwether. “This campaign will reap benefits for years to come.”

Overall, the funding is part of VTC’s efforts to increase visitation and revenue to Virginia regions through tourism by leveraging limited marketing funds, stimulating new tourism marketing through partnerships, and increasing visitor numbers by expanding the brand “Virginia is the City of Lovers.”

In total, VTC awarded more than $3.27 million to 268 local and regional tourism marketing programs.

“The VTC marketing and sponsorship program is a powerful incentive to build tourism partnerships across Virginia, which is a strong part of our state’s economic ecosystem,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “Across Virginia, the tourism industry recognizes the importance of having creative strategies to showcase all that Virginia has to offer. These grants will support those efforts and help bring thousands of additional visitors to Virginia to experience all that makes our state special.”
