The CEO and head coach of Williamsburg area swim club 757swim will relocate to Visit Williamsburg to focus on hosting tourism events in the Historic Triangle.
Morgan Caudle will be appointed sports sales manager starting May 15th and will aim to plan and host sports tournaments in Williamsburg.
“I’m excited to bring my passion for sports tourism to Visit Williamsburg,” said Caudle. “While it is bittersweet to be leaving 757swim, this new role presents an incredible opportunity to have a broad impact on the Williamsburg region.”
Visit Williamsburg, the marketing organization for Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown, said Caudle understands the importance of attracting sporting events to the region and the economic impact events have on the community. Ta.
“Her experience allows her to effectively advocate and participate in efforts to promote sports tourism in Williamsburg,” the organization said.
Caudle’s hiring comes as plans for a regional indoor sports complex are underway. Last year, leaders from Williamsburg, James City County and York County approved a funding agreement to build and operate the approximately $80 million facility. A planning review process for sports facilities is underway.
Visit Williamsburg says Williamsburg is uniquely positioned to promote sports tourism, citing the city’s rich historical heritage and homes with modern amenities. “Visit Williamsburg has always recognized the value of sports tourism,” spokeswoman Serena Coles said in response to a question about whether construction of the sports complex led to increased momentum.
The City of Williamsburg has supported the idea of marketing the Historic Triangle as a sports tourism destination since 2014.
According to Board Chairman Shannon Hartig, 757swim associate head coach Amy Coley will become head coach. Caudle’s last day in action on his 757swim will be his May 6th.
Caudle is the founding CEO and head coach, and Hartig said she led the organization from a group of 30 athletes operating out of the Williamsburg Community Pool to an organization with 300 athletes and an aquatic center. Ta. The board will review the CEO role and determine whether it needs to be split into multiple roles as the organization grows.
“She has accomplished amazing things,” Hartig said. She said, “It was a pleasure working with her and I am confident she will do great things with Visit Williamsburg.”
