Kentucky is poised for a record-breaking year in 2023 for tourism.
Gov. Andy Beshear said the campaign generated a record $13.8 billion in economic impact.
Kentucky’s tourism sector supports 95,000 jobs, and tourism remains a key sector of the state’s economy.
The Governor joined state tourism leaders in celebrating Kentucky’s record-breaking economic impact from tourism for the second consecutive year.
“More people are looking to visit Kentucky, providing new experiences for families and creating jobs for Kentuckians,” said Governor Beshear.
“Kentucky is experiencing the greatest tourism and economic boom of our lifetimes, which is a direct result of our investments in building a vibrant and welcoming tourism industry.”
According to a Tourism Economics study, 79.3 million tourists will visit Kentucky in 2023, a 4.5% increase over 2022.
These visitors spent a total of $9.7 billion statewide, with $2.28 billion spent on lodging and $1.26 billion on recreation and entertainment.
“Today’s numbers underscore the importance of tourism to Kentucky’s economy and the impact created by all of our local partners,” said Lindy Casebeer, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Heritage.
Kentucky’s tourism industry also saw record growth in 2022, generating more than $12.9 billion in economic impact.
In November 2023, Governor Beshear announced nine new tourism development projects are slated to generate an estimated $292.1 million in economic investment.
The projects are also expected to create 550 jobs once operational.
