More than 5.2 million passengers passed through Harry Reid International Airport in May, setting a new record for the year and up from the same period a year ago.
The increase was primarily due to an increase in international travel, which was up about 22% compared to May 2023, according to monthly data released by the airport and the Clark County Aviation Department.
Millions of passengers arrived and departed from Las Vegas airport last month, increasing passenger numbers by 5.2 percent compared to last year. Of the total passenger numbers, approximately 351,400 arrived and departed from international destinations. Domestic travel increased slightly, increasing 4.3 percent to approximately 4.8 million.
In the first five months of 2024, Lead Airlines’ passenger numbers are expected to grow 2.4% to 23.8 million.
Low-cost carriers continue to lead service at the airport, according to the monthly report. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines carried 1.9 million passengers to and from Las Vegas in May, up 9.3% from a year ago. In second place was Spirit Airlines, whose number of passengers fell 6.8% to about 704,000.
Meanwhile, the third and fourth largest carriers, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, saw passenger numbers increase by 13.4% and 12.3%, respectively.
One airport category that continued to decline in May and throughout the year was western charter terminals and helicopters, where passenger numbers were down about 2% for the month and 6.6% for the year to date, according to the airport.
