To enhance traveler safety, the Latin American Tourism Association (LATA) has partnered with Safer Tourism Foundation to provide members with expert resources and dedicated safety webinars.
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote travel safety, the Latin American Tourism Association (LATA) has partnered with the Safer Tourism Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to saving lives and preventing serious harm and injury for domestic and international travelers. As an affiliate partner, the Latin American Tourism Association and its members will have access to the Foundation’s expertise and content, supporting the charity’s mission.
LATA members are invited to join Safer Tourism Foundation CEO Catherine Atkinson for a webinar on September 12th to learn more about the “holiday head” phenomenon, the tendency for travelers to behave differently while traveling than they would at home, and the Safer Tourism Pledge, a set of commitments developed in partnership with the travel industry that articulates a rigorous approach to traveler risk, health and safety.
Danny Callahan, CEO of the Latin American Travel Association, said: “We are pleased that LATA has become a partner of the Safer Tourism Foundation. LATA offers all its members free access to its Safety Scheme, with the aim of improving safety standards across Latin America, so this partnership is a natural fit for us. We encourage all travel operators to work on their health and safety policies to minimise risks to travellers wherever possible.”
The Safer Tourism Foundation’s work is evidence-based: it works with the travel industry to collect anonymous safety incident data to understand the root causes of preventable harm, injury, illness and death, and uses this information to raise awareness, influence traveler behavior and encourage actions that minimize risk while traveling. The charity advocates for collaboration ahead of competition across the industry when it comes to safety and risk management, which aligns with the Latin American Travel Association’s principle of fostering collaboration among its members to amplify their impact.
Catherine Atkinson, CEO of the Safer Tourism Foundation, said: “We are thrilled that LATA has joined us and look forward to sharing our work with LATA members. For many of us, something happens when we leave home. Our behaviour changes, and so does our mindset. Our recent research bears this out. Making travel safe and sustainable depends on how we all behave. Holiday head is a complex web of cognitive, social, cultural and emotional influences. We’ll unpack some of these influences to offer an inside look at ‘holiday head’ and also suggest practical tips for managing it. We’ll look at how it affects our customers and suppliers, and ourselves.”
