Lhasa, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, will carry out a series of cultural and tourism activities in the coming weeks to provide a cultural feast of traditional Tibetan culture and unique highland scenery.
According to a press conference held in Lhasa on Friday, Lhasa will hold cultural and tourism industry development conferences, folk art performances, traditional dances, folklore experience activities, investment promotion conferences, events and other activities from May 17th to May 26th. will be hosted. Lhasa is an ancient city with over 1,300 years of history, surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the distance. It is home to famous cultural sites such as Potala Palace, Norbulingka Park, and Jokhang Temple.
According to official statistics, the city received nearly 37.6 million tourists in 2023, an increase of 60.87% compared to 2019. Tourism revenue reached 46.4 billion yuan ($6.4 billion), an increase of 33% compared to the same period in 2019.
In the first quarter of this year, the city received 3.5 million domestic and foreign tourists (up 87.6% year-on-year), and tourism revenue reached 3.59 billion yuan, up 132.64% year-on-year.
