DOHA, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry held a roundtable with several companies operating in the tourism sector to address the major challenges facing the sector and explore solutions for its development.
The meeting was attended by Saleh bin Majed Al Khalifi, Assistant Minister for Industry and Business Development;
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in a statement, said the holding of the meeting was part of a series of consultations with the private sector aimed at gathering opinions, identifying challenges and bottlenecks in various key sectors in the country, including the tourism sector.
The conference also reflects the Ministry’s efforts to support these sectors, provide all forms of support to companies operating in these sectors, facilitate current procedures, learn global best practices and propose appropriate solutions to create a favorable business environment in the State of Qatar.
The discussion covered several topics including the current challenges facing Qatar’s tourism sector and operators, the balance between competition and monopoly in Qatar’s tourism sector, infrastructure improvements needed to support the growth and diversification of tourism in Qatar, the effectiveness of marketing Qatar as a leading global tourism destination, strategies to enhance marketing, and strengthening collaboration with stakeholders to enhance strategic planning and implementation in Qatar’s tourism sector.
In addition, the roundtable discussed the main obstacles to foreign direct investment in Qatar’s tourism sector, strategic measures to make Qatar a more attractive country, and government and private sector cooperation to promote Qatar as an international tourism destination, attract foreign investment and stimulate tourism demand.
In addition, the meeting considered various proposals to support the success of projects in this important area and mitigate these challenges.
