Mizoram is famous for its beautiful landscapes of rolling hills, serene valleys, and cascading waterfalls. The state is also rich in flora and fauna.

The northeastern state has several tourist destinations and attractions, the most famous of which are Laik Trang (the highest hilltop in the state), Van Taung Waterfall, Phuang Pui Peak, located about 29 km from Aizawl. Humui Phan Trang (hill station), Dampa Wildlife Reserve, Murren. The tourism industry in Mizoram is moving forward with a “responsible” tourism policy that came into effect in August 2020, it said.

A “responsible” tourism policy envisages sustainable development strategies, coordination, strengthening of institutional frameworks and skills development.

The policy also focuses on making tourism a development tool for villages and local communities, eradicating poverty and providing livelihoods to local people, while adhering to the principles of economic, social and environmental responsibility. .

Previously, foreigners had to obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to travel to Mizoram.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended PAP and all foreign nationals except those from Afghanistan, Pakistan and China are now exempt from PAP.

Although PAP is no longer required for foreign tourists, all foreigners are required to present themselves at the Foreigners Registration Office in Aizawl within 24 hours of their arrival in Mizoram.
