New Jeans appointed as honorary tourism ambassador for Korea
On July 11, 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea appointed K-pop girl group New Jeans as the honorary ambassadors for Korea Tourism in 2024. The group was also awarded a commemorative plaque recognizing their contributions to the country. The group was chosen for this title to target the 2030 generation around the world and encourage them to visit and experience Korean culture.
Last year, 35.6% of foreign tourists who visited South Korea were under the age of 30, and 84% were traveling alone. Notably, the biggest reason for them to visit South Korea (32.1%) was to be exposed to Korean content.
The theme “Korea for Koreans” was introduced to highlight authentic Korean experiences that aren’t usually found through online searches. Advertisements featuring New Jeans show members strolling through a traditional market, dipping kimbap in tteokbokki sauce, savoring cup noodles after a hike, and enjoying Chungmu kimbap by the sea.
