HARRISBURG, Pa. — A new tourism slogan announced this week by Gov. Josh Shapiro highlights Pennsylvania as the “Great American Escape.”
Gov. Shapiro announced the new slogan Monday during a visit to Lackawanna County, the first stop on a week-long RV tour ahead of Memorial Day weekend to promote the new brand and the Keystone State’s tourism industry.

The new brand replaces “Pennsylvania. Pursue Your Happiness,” which was established for eight years during the administration of former Gov. Tom Wolf.
In total, the governor plans to make 50 visits across 14 counties this week, according to Shapiro’s office.
“Pennsylvania truly has so much to offer,” Shapiro said during his visit Monday. “From award-winning restaurants to incredible hiking trails through our state parks to some of the most important historical sites in the United States, Pennsylvania has it all.”
According to the Governor’s Office, approximately 72 million people live within a four-hour drive of thousands of Pennsylvania attractions, which collectively generate $76 billion annually and support more than 486,000 jobs.
Shapiro said Monday he wants to increase tourist spending to more than $800 million in 2022.
As part of the new brand launch, the state also launched a summer marketing campaign called “Your Great American Getaway Starts Here,” which kicked off in late May and will run through August in markets including New York City, Washington DC, Cleveland and Toronto, as well as statewide.
The launch will also feature ads narrated by Pennsylvania native and “Broad City” star Abby Jacobson.
