On Tuesday, May 21, from 10:15 to 10:30 p.m., Niagara Falls will turn red, the official color of the travel industry, in support of National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 19-25. It will be lit up.
Celebrated each May, NTTW shines a spotlight on the industry’s critical role in fueling our nation’s economy, fostering vibrant communities, and building connections.
Travel stimulates economic growth and creates quality jobs. Niagara County’s visitor spending totaled $969 million in 2022, with 23% of the county’s workforce employed in tourism-related occupations, according to a study by Tourism Economics. This took her over $54 million in local taxes attributable to tourism.
Specifically, without these tourism taxes, Niagara County households would need to contribute an additional $1,100 to maintain current government revenue levels.
“National Travel and Tourism Week is a great day to celebrate the impact travel and tourism has on our communities and economy, for both travelers and residents,” said John Percy, president and CEO of Destination Niagara USA. “This is an opportunity to highlight outstanding contributions.”
Destination Niagara USA’s mission is to increase the economic prosperity of the Niagara Falls USA community by facilitating individual and group visitation. For more information, please visit www.niagarafallsusa.com.
