As NYC Tourism + Conventions President and CEO Fred Dixon prepares to hang up his NY hat and take on the top role at Brand USA, he will be sharing the latest information and updates on America’s largest city and largest international gateway at IPW24. , shared why it’s so popular among international travelers. It is very important to the tourist economy.

Last year, New York City welcomed 62.2 million visitors, recovering 93 percent of its all-time high in 2019 and is expected to rebound 97 percent in 2024.

New York City Tourism + Conventions expects 64.8 million visitors in 2024, of which 13.3 million will be from abroad, setting a record for international visitors to the United States.

Dixon said international travel is extremely important to New York City, accounting for 20% of all visitors but 50% of both total spending and hotel guests.

“It takes two domestic travelers to match the economic impact of one international traveler,” he said.

“International travelers are setting the trends. They are paving the way to new destinations across the five boroughs and are being followed by domestic audiences in a variety of ways.”

Australia is one of New York City’s top 10 markets for international travelers in 2023, with 591,000 travelers, punching its weight in terms of airlift capacity with a total of just under 5,000 weekly seats from the Oceania region. It’s far superior.

New York City is a key gateway for U.S. travel, and with continued investment in airport renovations, the number of hotel rooms is expected to total 128,000 by the end of 2026.

Although New York City is also a major business hub, the recovery in business travel has been slow, with a full recovery not expected until 2026.

NYC Tourism + Conventions is focused on 2024 and beyond

Dixon said the destination marketing organization’s target audience is cultural visitors, historic travelers and the travel industry, with high-profile events coming up in the coming years. He said he would focus on key themes.

In the near future, New York City will celebrate the city’s 400th anniversary as New Amsterdam in 2025, and America250 in 2026, the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, when New York became the first capital.

NYC Tourism + Conventions recognizes the important stories of underrepresented communities and their contributions to modern New York City by honoring award-winning composer, playwright, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”) Moana” and “In the Heights”) as spokespeople for these two historic anniversaries.

“While we celebrate these historic milestones, we are consciously campaigning to focus on inclusivity, recognition, and education,” Dixon said.

“This means sharing important perspectives from underrepresented audiences, including Indigenous communities and Indigenous people, women, LGBTQ people, and people of color.

“Thus, they are important stories that are featured in all the work we do and the contributions they have made to the current situation in New York City.”
